When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul

It has always been easier to sing these words than to experience them.
The last couple of days have been a little rough on me. I went home to be with the rest of our children a couple of days. I thought I should put a picture of Micah on the blog and let everyone see who they are praying for. While looking for pictures I happened to come across a bunch of our camping pictures and other family events and it took me a while to overcome my sorrow. It has been one week now since Micah has been in the hospital. A week ago he was practically dead - unconscious and unable to breathe on his own. Today he has healthy lungs and and is making noises. He is awake some of the time. It is a gut-wrenching sight to see our son lying there. In a matter of 15-20 mins our lives have been turned upside down. I am not saying all these things because I am having a pity party. I am saying these to let you know that in spite of all we have been through - we are at peace! As Christians we have the privilege of partaking of Christ's divine nature and also of His suffering. 'He who began a good work in us will be faithful to complete it'. All over Jackson and even around the world people have been praying for Micah. Here are some specific ways you can pray for him.
- that the thalamic storms in his brains cease
- that the damaged grey areas would be restored
- that any residual swelling or fever in his brain would go away
- that he would heal quickly from the effects of the breathing tube that was in him
- and of course, complete recovery.
The miraculous power of God can only be manifested in the absence of human possibilities.
Yes we hear clinical diagnosis, yet louder still is the still small voice of God.
Grace and Peace to you in Jesus
Thomas

  1. Thank you for sharing these specifics to pray for Micah. As you know, several are gathering at work this morning for that sole purpose. You are dearly loved at JEA, and we will continue to lift up your family to Our Mighty King.

We continue to pray specifically for Micah's needs. God is loving and full of mercy,we pray for Jesus' healing hand to rest upon him. Take care. Shanti

  4. I'm a friend of Sandy Lovorn and also a missionary here in Thailand and wanted to let you know that me and my husband have also been praying for your family. Being 11 hours apart, as you rest or try to rest, know that people over here on the other side of the globe are interceding for you. God bless you. Grace upon grace.

  5. Nick and I are praying each day for Micah's complete recovery. I know that you feel tired and weary and even in a daze at times thinking this is all not real. Yes, in a moment your life on this earth has changed but in heaven the angels are still rejoicing and God is still on the throne with the same plans and purposes for Micah's life and for yours that he purposed when He created you in the womb. "His plans are not to harm you but to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11
    Isaiah 55: "No weapon formed against you will prosper." What great and precious promises we have as sons and daughters of the Most High God. What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! Grace and peace to you as you walk through this valley. But you are not alone. Christ is by your side and will gently lead you beside still waters as the days go by. I am reminded of the disciples in the midst of the storm as the boat rocked and the waves poured in on top of them. They were afraid they were going to die but Jesus was resting peacefully. Lie down beside him and rest in His Powerful arms. We love you,
    Nick and Lynn

  6. Thomas that song It is well with my soul has been a mainstay for me over the years. I continue to pray for complete healing. To see your faith in the middle of the storm is such a blessing to us all. I have had people as how they can pray, thank for tell how and what to pray for. I've been going to my car during my "lunch" break and putting on the praise music just for Micah.

    I know that the healing hands of Jesus is holding you all in his palms. I love you guys!

  9. Read John 11:11 a little bit ago. I replaced Micah name in it. "Our friend Micah sleepeth: but I (Jesus) go, that I may awaken him out of his sleep" I still feel that Micah will rise up and the power of our Lord Jesus will come in a mighty way.

  11. Tina and Thomas, Your resolve and hope for the future are a wonderful example of confidence in God and the strength only He can give us. This tragic event in your life has touched so many people, and let me tell you that it has caused me to seriously consider my own life and how I spend my time. There is a much stronger sense of family commitment for me now. I am sure every parent has wondered how we would react in your shoes as I have. I pray for you both and for Micah's complete recovery. I know that God is in the healing business, and he will continue to work His perfect healing out through Micah and all of the lives that Micah touches. God bless you all! 12. Tina and Thomas,
    I have witnessed your family live out Philippians 4:6-7 this week.

    "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, wich surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

    We are watching with you as Jehovah-Rapha completely Heals micah.

    In Christ,
    Jeff Downard

    You probably don't remember me, but I remember when you began dating at Union. I found out about this through Roger Poindexter, and just wanted to let you know your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

  15. Dear Thomas and Tina,

    Thank you so much for a very clear message… Thomas, I admire your resilience and pray that God keep giving you and Tina grace to overcome this very difficult time. Thank you also for posting a picture of Micah, the last time I’ve seen him was 8 years ago and I keep remembering the young boy that was very active during cell meetings at you home!

    Last night, after reading your post I’ve prayed with my wife and my parents. We’ve joined my mother’s prayer as we’ve asked for Micah’s complete recovery. I believe that mother’s prayers are very special to God! After we’ve prayed God gave me a passage that I want to write you both now and I hope God will reveal His mighty plan to you soon:

    ‘Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge. I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.” As for the saints who are in the land, they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight. The sorrows of those will increase who run after other gods. I will not pour out their libations of blood or take up their names on my lips. Lord, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.’ (Psalm 16)

    Indeed, you all are not alone! God is with you and He has great promises to us!!! He knows the plans He has for us. Plans to prosper and to give us a future! So, there is nothing bad that He will not turn into good. So “delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him…” (Psalm 37:4-7a)

    We will keep praying and pressing on…

    Love,
    Aline and Jay Assis.

    "For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. " Heb 4:15,16

  19. "in repentance & rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength." Is. 30:15

    Lord, please give your dear children rest in You. Thank you that they have fixed their minds upon You. Give quietness to their souls as they continue to trust in Your strength, for in You alone is where their strength comes from. We love you Jesus.

  20. This song has been on my mind now for 3 days every time I think of Micah.

    Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
    Morning by morning new mercies I see;
    All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
    Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

    We continue to lift you up in prayer...all of you.

  21. "Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
    The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
    He will not grow tired or weary,
    and his understanding no one can fathom.
    He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
    Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;
    but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
    They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint."
    Isaiah 40: 28-31..

    Thomas & Tina,
    These are the verses I claimed during Mom's battle with cancer and they continue to encourage me today. God will use this situation for His glory. He already has.
    We continue to pray for you, for Micah's healing and for those you have such a unique opportunity to witness to during this time.

    Hope Cooper

  22. Thomas & Tina,
    our prayers are with you..Micah is much loved by his church family. And I know he will be back to
    being the boy growing into the man that God intends him to be very soon. I have been in awe of you since I met you both and the kids. I
    know from the conduct of your children that they are much loved and much cared for but most of all brought up in the way of the LORD.. God is with you and your family. As Aaron lifted Moses arms we lift yours.
    love ,
    Neva & Rick
